Emily's Diary,
Wednesday 15th May, 1839

"I fear by my
un-aquaintance with the true state of the case, I have been too long
ignorant_and the following lucid description of it from "The Spirit of the
West" would prove so highly satisfactory to our friends in Jesey, that for
the mere pleasure of proving to them that truth can be stated with respect to
that unhappy island sometimes, even by it's inhabitants, I shall transcribe it
here..."
